Floor Safes
It is not always enough to protect the outside of our homes from burglary. Burglars are getting cleverer. They actually spend time practicing how to break into a home. New technology that protects the home also provides tools for a burglar to circumvent our home security measures and enter anyway. It is a scary thought.
One new idea that has come to light is the floor safe. It sounds a bit like something you would expect to see in a science fiction movie. The entire middle section of the floor rises up and a lock will open the steel door. The actual workings are not too far off base here.
A floor safe is the answer to our smart burglars. The safe is inserted into the floor which makes it hard to see and to get at. Most burglars who are in a hurry don’t think to check the floor for a safe of some kind. If you want to purchase a floor safe, be sure that it is what you want.
Installing a floor safe is not a simple task. The safe is inserted into the concrete slab that your home is built on. The positioning of the safe is a precision job that requires someone with expertise. A safe installer can give you a choice of places to put it depending on your home. Ideally, you want the safe in an area that is not prone to high traffic. An office, closet, or bedroom on the ground floor is an ideal location.
Once the concrete is cut for the safe dimensions, the safe is inserted and secured with a new pouring of concrete. This guarantees that the safe will not be removed by any burglar. It would take the Jaws of Life to even budge that safe from its resting place.
Floor safes are fire resistant. Because of their location, they will always be affected by a house fire. Anything that you store inside will be protected from flame and smoke damage.
Floor safes do not offer much space for storing large items. Their purpose is to protect items that you treasure—photos, documents, tapes, maybe jewelry, and the like. It is not an extra closet or place for storing other goods. A floor safe can be used for firearms but it would not be the first choice because of its location.
These safes come with combination or electronic locks. As it is in the floor and it’s usually dark down there, an electronic lock with a lighted number pad would be a better bet than a combination lock. With an electronic lock, the combination can be easily changed if it is ever compromised. That would be a more costly if not impossible job if you had a combination lock.
Floor safes are expensive but provide the ultimate protection for the home and office. Kids won’t look to the floor in their curiosity, either. If you have items that you want to keep away from them, such as firearms, this would be the place to store them.
Burglars don’t like floor safes. They aren’t particularly fond of any safe, but floor safes pose a real problem for them I am delighted to say. It is cemented in so it is not going to be carried out. A burglar would have to be prone on the floor to try and use their skills to open it. Some floor safes do lift out but it is still a cumbersome thing for any thief.
You won’t have to worry about anything that you put in this safe. It is well protected.
