Maintenance Tips for Gun Safe Owners
Although gun safes have high resistance against most forms of damage, they do need some level of maintenance in order to provide optimal security for many years. A gun safe that receives regular and proper maintenance will be able to last for an entire lifetime, and this will add value to your investment. Here are tips on how to maintain a gun safe.
After some time, dust and dirt will gather on the exterior of your gun safe, and you have to make sure that you clean your safe at least once a month. Dust and dirt can be difficult to clean after they settle for a long time. If your safe has a gloss, textured, or powder coat finish, you have to clean it with a soft non-abrasive cloth. The finish may scratch or cloud if you wipe it with other materials. Dampen the cloth with water and wipe the exterior until all the dirt and dust have come off. When cleaning the handle and lock, refrain from using metal polishes or solvents. These parts have a coating that prevents tarnish, and the coating will be damaged if you use metal polishes. Scratches and other blemishes on the exterior of your gun safe can be easily fixed with touch up paint.
The chrome locking bolts in your gun safe may not function effectively if they are not properly oiled. Apply a small amount of grease to the front side and bottom of the bolts once a year to prevent them from sticking. Additionally, make sure that you have the lock serviced by a certified lock technician once a year. Another thing that you have to look into is the fire seal. The fire seal does not require any maintenance if it is not damaged. If it is ripped or damaged, it is essential that you get a replacement.
